LG U+, formerly known as LG Telecom, and TransferTo (an Ingenico company), the international mobile airtime transfer company, today announced the launch of an international top-up service for users of LG U+ IDD international calling cards. This new service, called "Talk-time Transfer", caters to the largey foreign-born community in South Korea wishing to send home low-cost gifts in the form of mobile airtime top-ups.
With Talk-time Transfer any LG U+ IDD card subscriber can transfer value from their calling card in South Korea to a pre-paid mobile phone account abroad (minus a transaction fee). The service currently supports airtime top-ups to the Philippines and Indonesia, and will gradually be extended to other destinations in TransferTo's network of 65 countries.
To use the service, LG U+ subscribers must visit www.08216.net, a service platform providing various services such as Pc2Phone, International SMS and Talk-time Transfer. For the Talk-time Transfer, the top-up value is to be paid in LG U+ IDD international calling cards.
According to the Korean Times, there were more than 1.2 million foreigners living in South Korea in 2010. For many of these people living far from home, sending the gift of airtime to their loved ones is an inexpensive way to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, weddings or religious holidays and an ideal complement to cash remittances.
"We are proud to be launching this innovative service with LG U+" said Eric Barbier, TransferTo Founder and CEO. He added: "By addressing the needs of the foreign born community, a largely underserved market, LG U+ is once again demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking and leadership in the telecom space."
