AXIS partners with TransferTo to offer international mobile top-up solution

AXIS (a trademark of PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler) the rapidly growing national GSM and 3G cellular service provider in Indonesia, partners with TransferTo to implement cross-border mobile recharge service.

This solution enables AXIS subscribers to receive airtime credit directly on their prepaid account from their relatives living outside Indonesia.

Using TransferTo service, the sender simply needs to enter the amount and destination number and send it via SMS. Transaction is processed in real-time through TransferTo secure platform; both sender and receiver are immediately notified by text messages.

There are around 3.6 million Indonesians living overseas mainly in Malaysia (1.5 million), Saudi Arabia (900,000), Singapore (200,000) and Hong Kong (90,000). TransferTo is already offering the solution for international mobile reload in these countries making sense for AXIS to join this network. In Malaysia, the leading mobile operator Maxis has launched its service "i-share" for international mobile top-up with TransferTo. Indonesian subscribers of Maxis can now send credit to AXIS subscribers in Indonesia directly via SMS using their Hotlink i-Share card.

"We are supported by two prominent operators, Maxis in Malaysia and Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As TransferTo is already partnering with these two major mobile services providers for international balance transfer, it is all the more relevant for us to offer this service to our subscribers" says Johan Buse, Chief Marketing Officer of AXIS.

Indonesians who work overseas send part of their earnings every month directly to their family in Indonesia but they still lack an appropriate service for sending smaller amounts to the rest of their family. TransferTo comes as the perfect solution for giving out airtime recharge as a gift on special occasions like birthdays, festivals or celebrations.

"We are extremely enthusiastic about this partnership, AXIS subscribers will have the opportunity to receive credit from their relatives abroad, not only from Malaysia or the Middle-East but also from Singapore and Hong Kong through our network of mobile operators" says Eric Barbier, Managing Director, TransferTo.

The service is distributed either by mobile operators through phone to phone or via point of sales such as proximity retailers, calling cards distributors or money transfer operators. It is deployed at an international level in the Middle-East, Asia, Africa and Europe. This network aggregates mobile operators' airtime all over the world, creating bridges for telecommunication operators from both developed and emerging countries.
